darkroom experiments! yeehaw!
for the first time in forever, i had a simple shoot with a few props for the sake of playing around with portraits.
i know my blacks are punchy (knock out, really) and that’s the way i tend to like it. i haven’t done portraiture in a while though and i recognize it isn’t really appropriate for that. looking at the raw prints (scans can’t even do it justice) is making me rethink a few things. it’s wild how much detail is in the print vs the negative scan, but i’ll admit i don’t spend as much time as i should on capturing tones in favor of an overall aesthetic.
time to hit the books, i think.
these photos were printed on ilford multigrade iv rc postcard paper, which is absolutely adorable.
now i just need to start shooting photos that are worth the time and money to print :-)
hope to have more to share soon,
katie

june, the beginning of summer and a new era for me.
it’s been a while since i’ve shot and scanned color, and i think it shows.
a good friend of mine gave us a lovely tour of the zoo during their pride event; it was really incredible to hear the animals react to the sound of her voice. having someone with you who cares about and works with these animals is a beautiful experience (and will happen again - apparently we didn’t even make it half way through the park!)
being able to go out on a whim is a new concept to me and one i’m working to always say yes to. i’m so proud of myself and these two for leaving the workplace where we met in the d u s t.
family times. at this point in scanning, i realized that my contax is on the wrong focus setting… that’s what i get for carrying it loose in my bag.
i’m not sure if there’s a place for blog posts in 2022, but i can’t help but feel that throwing these into a carousel post is too fleeting. old habits die hard, i guess i miss my 2010 blogspot photo dump posts.
here’s to a window to my corner of the internet,
katie

Smartmouth Brewing’s Pilot House, in collaboration with Hampton Roads Pride, held a drag show to celebrate pride month, and boy, do I love photographing drag shows. Thank you to Shannon for enthusiastically encouraging me, a rando who showed up with a camera, to run wild alongside these queens!
